Android Oreo update rolling out to the HUAWEI Mate 9 in the US

U.S. wireless carriers might have givenHuaweiand its flagshipMate 10thecoldshoulder, butMate 9owners can still rejoice in the goodness that isAndroid 8.0 Oreo.

Earlier today,Droid Lifespotted that the cookie-branded update is rolling out to models MHA-L29 and MHA-L09. The former is the one sold in the U.S. through Best Buy and other retailers, though both models are the international variants.

As for what is new, Oreo introduces persistent notifications, adaptive icons, picture-in-picture mode, and plenty more. It is the most approachable Android version we have encountered and brings a little more polish to an operating system that has been in need of it for a little while.

The update also brings theJanuary 2018 Android security patchandEMUI 8.0, the latest version of HUAWEI’s software skin. Combined with the hardware, EMUI 8.0 uses artificial intelligence to better manage performance and push lesser-used apps to the background. Additionally, the update brings a new floating navigation dock and a 3D panorama mode to the rear camera.

Finally, the update should bringProject Trebleto the Mate 9. However, none of our devices have received the update yet, so we’re unable to confirm at this time. HUAWEI did tellAndroid AuthoritythatTreble support would be added with this update, which should help the company fulfill its promise of monthly updates for higher-end phones.
