DOOGEE S90 hits Kickstarter: Ever wanted a rugged, modular phone?

June 08, 2025

DOOGEE has quietly made a name for itself thanks to its cheap price tags and occasionally interesting designs (see theDOOGEE Mix 4slider). Now, the company has decided to hop aboard the modular train with the DOOGEE S90.

The new smartphone has just hitKickstarterand, much like theMoto Zseries, it supports add-on modules via metal contacts on the back. The current list of add-ons include a 5,000mAh power bank, a walkie-talkie, a 2MP “night vision” camera with a 131-degree field of view, and a gamepad (there’s no second analogue stick though).

These add-ons are available at a discounted price right now too, ranging from $29 for the gamepad (usually $39) all the way to $59 for the camera module (usually $69). But the DOOGEE S90 has more going for it than the add-ons.

Doogee’s phone offers IP68 water/dust resistance as well as a MIL-STD-810G rating for durability. Pop the proverbial hood and you’ll find a mid-rangeHelio P60chipset, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and a 5,050mAh battery.

Other noteworthy specs include a notched 6.18-inch IPS LCD screen (Full HD+), a 16MP+8MP rear camera setup, an 8MP selfie snapper, Android 8.1 (noPiehere), and a rear fingerprint scanner. But there are also a few extras you might not expect in a mid-range device, such asNFCandwireless charging. In fact, DOOGEE is claiming 10-watt wireless charging for the device — much like thePixel 3and itsPixel Stand.

The DOOGEE S90 will be available on Kickstarter from January 15 until February 25. The first 300 backers to buy the phone only (i.e. with no modules) can get it for $299. There’s also the option to buy the phone with all the mods for $399, limited to 100 people.

The phone will be available from DOOGEE’s website following the Kickstarter program, starting at $499 for the device only or $676 for the phone and all the mods. The Chinese brand also confirmed that it pulled a Motorola and is working on a5Gmodule for the S90, but this is only expected in Q3 2019.

All in all, it seems like you’re getting a unique phone for the price. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
