DROID Turbo 2 Employee Edition now receiving Marshmallow

July 28, 2025

Ever since it was announced that Motorola would be changing owners from Google to Lenovo, users have questioned what it means for device update guarantees. In the weeks sinceAndroid 6.0 Marshmallow releasedin particular, the issue has risen to a muchmore palpable problem. Despite theMoto X Stylereceiving thesupreme structure of Stay Puftoverin Brazil, it was weeks before customers in the USA had anyopportunities. In an unexpected turn of events, selectDROID Turbo 2users arealreadyreceiving it!

According to screen captures obtained by Droid Life, owners of theDROID Turbo 2 Employee Editionhandsets are now receiving OTA updates to Marshmallow (6.0). This comes after reports began to emerge last weeksuggesting a Soak Test for the devicewas in the works, though it was unconfirmed as to if Marshmallow would comprise it. It can not be confirmed, and the new version is listed as 24.11.13.

The catch, of course, is that the only ones who have a DROID Turbo 2 Employee Edition are, naturally, Verizonemployees. Those who don’t work for Big Red may be feeling somewhat disappointed at the moment, however given that Motorola has apparently completed work on the new update, it is likely to be formally released in the coming weeks, provided there are no problems with the initial testing underway.

Of course, it is somewhat questionable as to how many customersmight actually notice it. Despite a visually similar resemblance to Android 5.X Lollipop which came before it, Marshmallow has added features such asDoze– which minimizes power consumption when a device is not in use – as well asNow on Tap, where Google will analyze information on the screen and provide context-specific cues for interacting with it.
