Galaxy Note 7 reportedly launching August 2 with 3,600 mAh battery

It’s that time of year folks, and the latestGalaxy Note 7rumor has the device launching on August 2 with a 3,600 mAh battery. Russian leaker Eldar Murtazin, who has had a pretty solid Samsung leak record in the past, is the one behind this latest information. There is no proof of course, but the details do line up with other Note 7 rumors doing the rounds.
Murtazin claims the 3,600 mAh Galaxy Note 7 battery will get you 20.5 hours of video playback at max brightness, indicating he has either seen documentation himself or spoken to someone internally. The Galaxy Note 7 launch date of August 2 has already beenleaked multiple timesand seemingly confirmed since apromotional poster was leakeda couple of weeks ago.
There is no real reason to doubt the launch date but the battery size will undoubtedly disappoint more than a few punters if it turns out to be true. Considering the typical 5.7-inch screen size of the Note series, 3,600 mAh isn’t a particularly huge battery to power that large a QHD screen.
After all, the Galaxy S7 Edge has the same sized battery and it is only a 5.5-inch device. Some rumors have even claimed theNote 7 display will increase to 5.8-inchesthis year. Still, the 5.7-inch QHDGalaxy Note 5only had a 3,000 mAh battery, so even while 3,600 mAh would be a 20% increase you know it will still get called out for not being bigger than the S7 Edge’s battery.
Considering the backlash Samsung suffered for shrinking the battery capacity in theGalaxy S6and the positive response they received for increasing it in the S7 Edge, you would think they would know the truth by now: we want thicker phones with bigger batteries.
Of course, the Note 7 will arrive with a much more efficient chipset and enhanced battery optimization software. It will also have been designed for Android Marshmallow’s energy-saving features (rather than been updated to them) and should still have the same resolution as the Note 5. No matter which way you cut it though, Samsung will cop flak on paper, but the proof is, as always, in the pudding.
As it now stands, the unofficial Galaxy Note 7 specs sheet reads as follows: 5.7-5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 821 or Exynos 8893 SoC, 6 GB of RAM, 64/128/256 GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, 12 MP camera with dual-pixel PDAF, 5 MP front-facing camera, 3,600 mAh battery, iris scanner and the newGrace UXon top ofAndroid 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
