Google Pixel 2’s squeezable Active Edge might make its way to the Pixel 3

July 10, 2025

WithGoogle Pixel 3rumors and leaks coming in fast and hot, it might not surprise you that there is yet another report. This one is of the squeezable variety, however, asXDA Developersreported that thePixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL’sActive Edge feature might make a return on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

According toXDADevelopersforum member meraz9000, who published thefirstandsecondround of Pixel 3 XL images, he accidentally soft-bricked the smartphone. Before that happened, however, he alleged that the smartphone vibrated when he squeezed it and determined that Active Edge was present.

XDA Developersthen looked at thelatest Android P developer previewand noticed that the “WakeMode” class within the SystemUIGoogle APK was modified. The updated class then led to the newer “isWakeSettingEnabled” method, where Crosshatch and Blueline were found in the list of compatible devices. Crosshatch and Blueline are the alleged codenames of the Pixel 3 smartphones.

Active Edge debuted on the Pixel 2 smartphones and lets you bring upGoogle Assistantif you squeeze the sides. You can also silence incoming calls with the same gesture, which became a surprisingly useful tool over time.

Pixel 3 XL hands on

There is no guarantee that Active Edge returns on the Pixel 3 smartphones, however. Even though the evidence seemingly corroborates Active Edge’s second appearance, this is all based on an engineering prototype and incomplete software. Google could simply scrap the feature by the time final production kicks off.

On the other hand, it would make sense to see Active Edge make a return and even get some improvements. For example, Edge Sense on theHTC U12 Pluscan sense where your hands are and allows for additional functionality. Perhaps Google could make similar enhancements and even allow some customization.
