Google Play Store notifying users of installed-but-unused apps

August 14, 2025

Downloading an app from theGoogle Play Storeis incredibly easy. In fact, it’s so easy that many of us have more apps on our devices than we would ever use on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis.

Google is doing us all a favor with a new feature from the Google Play Store that notifies you of all the apps you have installed which you haven’t used in a while. The feature was first spotted byAndroid World.

According to screenshots provided byAW, the alert appears in your notification tray telling you that there are unused apps installed. It also says you can remove them to clear up space on your internal storage.

Check the shots out below:

When you tap on the alert, it takes you into the Google Play Store, specifically to a list of the apps the Play Store knows you haven’t used in a while. Each app has a description which includes the last time you opened it. you’re able to select an app (or multiple apps) and uninstall them. The Play Store will even summarize how much space you’ve saved as you go.

This is a neat little feature. However, it’s unclear if this is rolling out worldwide or just in the Netherlands, whereAndroid Worldis based. It’s also not clear how long you need to have an unused app before you start seeing the alerts. We’ve reached out to Google for clarification and will update this if we hear back.
