HTC hints at August 30 unveiling of U device, probably HTCU12 Life

August 24, 2025

Back in July we caught an exclusive leak of promotional materials describing a new mid-range device from HTC, codenamed “Imagine Life.” We assumed that the device is the HTCU12 Life, the follow-up to last year’sHTC U11 Lifeand a cheaper alternative to its flagshipHTC U12 Plus.

Today,HTC tweeted a teaser adfrom its official account which describes a new “U” device landing on August 30. We don’t know anything for certain, but it very well possibly could be the HTCU12 Life.

Check out the tweet below:

If the HTCU12 Life is what’s coming on August 30, that would be really early; the HTCU11 Life landed in December last year. However, that doesn’t mean that the U12 Life isn’t what’s coming next week.

Our leaked promotional materials for the “Imagine Life” handset suggest a mid-ranger with some decent upgrades over the HTCU11 Life. “Imagine Life” will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It will have a 6-inch display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080, a dual camera on the rear, and a 3,600mAh battery. It will likely ship withAndroid 8.1 Oreo.

The specs would suggest a smartphone in the sub-$300 price range, but this is HTCwe’re talking about so it would most likely be between $300 and $400. We’ll have to wait until August 30 to know for sure what’s coming.

There was alsothe weird rumorthat HTCmight not even be making the HTCU12 Life itself, instead outsourcing the production to another company or companies. If that’s true, it would be the first time HTCoutsourced the production of a phone in one of its flagship series. This would certainly represent a major turning point for a companyin danger of becoming totally irrelevant.
