Leaker tells us what to expect from Galaxy Z Fold 3 under-display selfie camera

We’ve known for a while now that theSamsung Galaxy Z Fold 3will have an under-display selfie camera, owing to numerous leaks. But image quality is another big question, and it looks like a frequent tipster has given us an idea of what to expect.
Social media leakerIce Universealleges that the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s under-display camera uses AI algorithms to improve images, claiming that picture quality “is not bad” as a result. The tipster adds that the camera still doesn’t reach the level of conventional selfie cameras but believes it’ll be the best among upcoming phones with the tech. This isn’t the first time a high-profile source has made claims about the new foldable’s selfie camera.Android Policewriter Max Weinbach alleged that the Z Fold 3’s under-display camera “will be good” earlier this year.
Samsung wouldn’t be the first company to offer an under-display selfie camera, as theZTE Axon 20offered this feature late last year. But we thought selfies taken with the ZTE device all exhibited a beauty filter-like glow, as if the camera lens was smudged. So as long as Samsung steers clear of this effect, it should be an improvement over the first device with an under-display selfie camera at the very least. There’s more to a decent under-display selfie camera than avoiding the “smudged” look though.
Another major challenge for the tech is mixed-lighting or low-light situations, as the screen above the camera blocks plenty of light from reaching the sensor. This is probably the biggest hurdle for manufacturers to overcome, so we’ll be interested to see how the Z Fold 3’s camera fares in these scenarios.
