LG’s G7 ThinQ Android Pie beta signals it’s cracking down on slow updates

July 22, 2025

LG G7 ThinQusers in Korea are now able to test out an early build of Android Pie. LG opened up its Piepreview programin the region earlier today, but it’s currently restricted to Korea.

The fact the Pie preview build is already being tested suggests LG G7 ThinQ users will not have to wait as long for the phone’s first major OS update asLG G6users did. LGbegan to roll outOreo for the G6 in April 2018, around a year after it first released and eight months after Android Oreo launched. However, the company updated the LG V30 (which arrived after the G6) to Oreo before the end of 2017 after rolling out the beta in South Koreaat the end of November; we could see LG make similar moves for the G7 ThinQ.

LG G7 Review-10

The company doesn’t have astrong track recordas far as speedy updates are concerned, but LGopened a facilityin South Korea last April dedicated to Android software updates, suggesting these would roll out sooner in future. This Pie preview, coupled withreportsthat LG has started rolling out Pie for theLG G7 Onein Canada, are certainly positive signs.

We’ll let you know if we see the beta pop up in other regions in the future, but it’s unlikely that we will. Stay up to date with all the other Pie update news in ourAndroid Pie update tracker.
