July 30, 2025
The Formula One world is no stranger to tech partnerships, but McLaren’s latest announcement might pique some interest. The British auto company and F1 constructor hasrevealeda partnership with OnePlus.

According to tipster Ishan Agarwal, the company will launch aOnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. Agarwal says this could be the most expensive OnePlus device yet. McLaren’s trademark color is Papaya Orange, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is part of the color scheme for the supposed handset. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part.Update:It looks like a special edition OnePlus 6T is all but guaranteed for the December 11 event. The Vergenoticed that the McLaren/OnePlusteaser websiteURL ends in “mclaren-6t”.

It’s not the first time McLaren has partnered with a consumer tech brand in 2018, havingannounceda tie-up withHTCearlier this year. The HTCpartnership yielded aspecial edition Vive VR headset(in Blue and Papaya Orange, no less), including the rFactor 2: McLaren Edition video game and McLaren Garage VR experience. The F1 team will also be using the Vive as the official headset for the McLaren Shadow esports initiative.
The news adds to an impressive year for the Chinese brand, having launched a devicevia a U.S. carrier(T-Mobile) for the first time. The phone in question, theOnePlus 6T, has purportedly been sold out at roughly half of all T-Mobile stores, according to aBusiness Insiderarticle earlier this month.
In any event, we look forward to seeing what the two companies have up their sleeve. Hopefully this supposed special edition smartphone has a few extra features as well, such as the super-fast charging seen in theOPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition. After all, OnePlususesOPPO’s fast-charging technology anyway.
