Monthly updates promised for Galaxy S10 family, might not be April Fool’s joke

July 22, 2025

Over at the officialSamsung Mobile Security website, the company just updated its schedule of which of its Android smartphones and tablets will receive monthly security updates, which ones will receive quarterly updates, and which ones will receive “regular” updates. The brand new lineup ofSamsung Galaxy S10devices is now on the monthly list, as first spotted byAndroid Police.

That means, ostensibly, thatSamsung Galaxy S10 device ownerscan expect at least one security update every month. However, today isApril Fool’s Day.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Back Angle

Assuming this isn’t just a prank, bro, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve heardSamsungcommit to monthly security updates for some of its devices and then not follow through on that promise. For example, almost every U.S. variant of theSamsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Pluswas stuck on the February 2018 security patchfor over three months.

Even when Samsung does deliver on a monthly security update promise, it is often for specific devices in specific locations, with many of the U.S. variants getting the updates later. Samsung points to some of these issues being carrier-related, though.

For what it’s worth, the Samsung Galaxy S10 family did receivethe most recent March 2019 security patch. So Samsung is starting off OK.

In related news, theSamsung Galaxy S7andGalaxy S7 Edgehave been demoted to the quarterly update schedule (the Galaxy S7 Active is still getting monthly updates, though). Many of Samsung’s new tablets — including the just-releasedSamsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1— are also on the quarterly updates list.

Time will tell if U.S. Galaxy S10 owners will get the timely updates Samsung promises.
