Moto X gets a green notification light, thanks to new ‘hack’ [update]

August 17, 2025

TheMoto Xoffers quite a few cool features including active display technology and touchless control, making it arguably one of the best Android flagships on the market today — provided you’re able to get past the fact it doesn’t exactly have bleeding edge specs.

Another way that the Moto X sets itself apart from the competition is that it trades LED notifications and other forms of alerts in for active notifications. Of course, there are some folks that probably wish this wasn’t the case. If you’re one of these users, the good news is that you can now bring a unique green-glowing LED notification light to the Moto X!

Moto X

As it turns out, the Moto X already had a green LED light underneath the ear piece, which the phone only uses for those times when your battery is so low that there isn’t enough power to turn on the screen to inform you that the phone is charging.

A newly discovered set of commands now makes it possible to turn this light on, thanks to the efforts of XDA usercarock. Basically, to get the LED light turned on you’ll need a rooted Moto X and the popularTasker automation appinstalled.

To better explain how to enable the green LED light on the Moto X, XDA useralex94kumarhas put together a video that walks you through the process:

Adding a green LED notification light to the Moto X isn’t for everyone, but at least it’s nice to have the option. For existing Moto X users, do you plan on enabling this, or do you feel that it is largely unnecessary thanks to active notifications?

Update:As it turns out, the LED light isnotcurrently capable of being used as an LED notification light. Instead, turning on the light simply gives it a green glow that lets you know it is charging from a distance. It’s possible that developers will figure out a way to bring blinking notifications, but for now, it’s unable to do this.
