Motorola’s 2020 flagship could have one of 2019’s most polarising features

Motorola is expected to announce 5G phones running on theSnapdragon 765andSnapdragon 865platforms atMWC 2020. Now, folks over atXDA Developershave revealed some specs and design details of the two upcoming phones.

Citing reliable sources, the publication reports that the two Moto5G phoneswill come with curved“waterfall” displays. However, it’s believed that the “waterfall” curves aren’t quite as extreme as theHUAWEI Mate 30 Proandvivo Nex 3 5Gcurves. Both phones are said to sport a screen refresh rate of 90Hz, just like thePixel 4,OnePlus 7and many other 2019 phones. This will be the first time Moto launches phones with refresh rates higher than 60Hz.

According toXDA, the upcoming Motorola phones could be marketed under the ‘Motorola One 2020’ moniker. However, they are not 100% sure about the name just yet.

What they do know are the alleged code names for the phones and some additional specs. The publication claims that the Snapdragon 865 phone is code named Burton. Meanwhile, the one with the Snapdragon 765 is code named Racer 5G. They also have some images showing off the curved display that the two phones are expected to feature.

Specs and design

Both phones reportedly have the same 6.67-inch, 2,340 X 1,080 curved display running a 90Hz refresh rate.

The Racer 5G is tipped to offer 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, alongside the Snapdragon 765 SoC. It is also said to feature a 48MP primary camera, a 4,660mAh battery, support for NFC, andAndroid 10.

Meanwhile, the more premium Snapdragon 865 device called Burton, is expected to come with 8GB or 12GB of RAM, a 5,170mAh battery, and Android 10. There are no other spec details available for this phone.

There’s a punch hole on the top left corner of the screen on both phones.XDAnotes that this punch hole could be smaller than the ones seen on Motorola’s previous phones like theMotorola One Vision.

The so-called Motorola One 2020 series is also expected to bring in some new software skills.XDAreports that the company will launch several new applications with the new phones. These include: Moto Edge Assistant, Moto Gametime, and Moto Audio.

The Moto Edge Assistant will reportedly help users customize tap actions on the curved edges of the display.

Moto Gametime will provide users a customizable toolbar to quickly access settings and other tools for gaming. “you may either tap a floating button or swipe in from one of the sides to access the toolbar,” writesXDA. The feature will let users block notifications while gaming, lock brightness levels, and more.

Lastly, Moto Audio will be an app that automatically tunes audio profiles to match content. For instance, it could boost voice clarity during calls. It will also reportedly offer different profiles for gaming, movies, music, and more.
