June 10, 2025
TheNokia 6 from 2017was the first Android Nokia device fromHMD Global, which previously had bought the rights to the brand. Now, that two-years-old phone is getting an update toAndroid 9 Pie, fulfilling HMD’s promise to give at least two years of updates to its devices.
That means the Nokia 6 will receive at least three flavors of Android: it started onNougat, went toOreo, and is now getting Pie.

Take note, other companies — this is how it’s done!
HMD Global happily announced the release with a tweet from CPO Juho Sarvikas:
HMD Global recentlypromised to updatenearly every Nokia phone it’s released to Android 9 Pie and so far is keeping its word. The last few remaining stragglers will likely get the update by the end of the second quarter this year.

We fully expect to finally see theNokia 9 PureView— HMD’s biggest release to date, featuring a whopping five camera lenses on the back — atMobile World Congress, which starts in a few days. Judging from the release history for the Nokia 6, it’s likely the Nokia 9 PureView will launch with Pie and then receive bothAndroid Qand Android R, making the device a quality investment as far as Android updates are concerned.
