Nokia brings back its Pro Camera mode from the dead for its Android phones
June 18, 2025
As forgettable asNokia‘s Windows Phone days were, they introduced several smartphones whose cameras were more capable than anything else on the market. That was partially thanks to the Nokia Pro Camera mode, which introduced pro-level manual controls and was thought dead after Nokia’s unceremonious exit from the Windows Phone market.
That will soon change, however, as HMD Global announced the return of the Nokia Pro Camera mode for its top-tier Android smartphones.

HMD Global chief product officer Juho Sarvikasannouncedthe revival duringMWC 2018and said every Nokia phone with ZEISS optics would get the feature. These devices include theNokia 7 PlusandNokia 8 Sirocco, though Sarvikas confirmed on Twitter that the Nokia 8 would also be supported.
The current Nokia Pro Camera mode appears similar to its previous incarnation. You still have a radial menu that lets you manually adjust the white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. You see the results on the screen as you make your adjustments to make sure you get the shot you want.

Slightly different is the Nokia Pro Camera mode’s appearance. Whereas the previous incarnation featured dark navy menus on the top and bottom, the new version features a black background on the bottom only. The new version also sports new icons and improved icon placement, such as a more prominent camera switch.
HMD Global did not say when the Nokia Pro Camera mode would be available. The existing Camera app would presumably be updated when the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco become available, so we will keep an eye out for when that happens.
