OnePlus Nord 2 is pulling camera tech from the OnePlus 9 and OPPO Find X3 Pro

June 15, 2025

OnePlus has been drip-feedingNord 2features ahead of the July 22 launch date, confirming chipset and screen details in recent days. Now, the manufacturer has turned to the main camera, and it looks like the mid-range device has some impressive hardware.

OnePlus took to itscommunity forumto reveal that the Nord 2 will offer a 50MP IMX766 main camera sensor with optical image stabilization. The IMX766 is the same sensor used for the ultra-wide cameras on theOnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. This sensor has also been used as the main and ultra-wide cameras for theOPPO Find X3 Pro.

In terms of specs, the camera sensor features a 1/1.56-inch sensor size and one-micron pixel size. That’s a little larger in both areas than typical 48MP and 64MP camera sensors, but slightly smaller than Samsung’s 50MP sensors. Nevertheless, wepraisedthe OPPO Find X3 Pro’s main and ultra-wide cameras so hopefully we see similarly great results from the Nord 2.

OnePlus says it’s also introducing a Nightscape Ultra mode on the phone, allowing you to take better shots in places with only one lux of illuminance (OnePlus says this is equivalent to the light from a lit candle). We also get confirmation of a triple camera system, with rumors pointing to an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro lens.

The manufacturer is also conducting a blind camera test, pitting the OnePlus Nord 2 against the Samsung Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12. You can check it outhereand vote for the best shots.

Either way, we’re glad to see OnePlus bringing a major upgrade on paper for the Nord 2. The proof of the pudding is in the eating though and OnePlus has promised major camera upgrades in bygone years that haven’t quite panned out. So we’ll be eager to put this phone’s main camera to the test.
