OPPO Find X3 will launch in 2021 with novel color tech

July 27, 2025

Recently the smartphone display war has been waged with weapons of high refresh rates, high pixel densities, and near-tablet dimensions. Now,Oppois taking aim at an often disregarded aspect: color accuracy.

OPPO has announced a new “full-path color management system” for the company’s 2021 flagships, starting with the OPPO Find X3. The end-t0-end image processing system will allow for devices like the Find X3 to save HEIF images with support for10-bit color depthand the DCI-P3 wide color gamut.

This should allow the Find X3 to capture images with a wider variety of colors, and display those colors as captured on its panel, too. Although Androidsupportedthe standard back in 2019, this makes OPPO the first Android OEM to complete the 10-bit, wide gamut loop from capture to display.

“Compared with the depth of 8-bits, the 10-bit color depth tones down the artificial visual features brought about by gaps in colors. The 10-bit color depth further improves color gradient to enhance the quality of visual content during creation and post-editing,” says OPPO.

The company seemingly has big plans for the Find X3 in this regard. OPPO says the phone will support digital overlap HDR, which can shoot images at different exposures allowing for wider color extraction. The company will also take color calibration more seriously on its future devices.

There are gains to be had for storage, too. The use of HEIF to store images will result in a file size around 50% of a JPEG with more detail, in line with other phones using the format. OPPO believes there’s room for improvements for HEIF as a format, too.

While it’s not the first firm to offer 10-bit capture on its devices, or 10-bit wide-color gamut displays on its phones, OPPO’s move should encourage more OEMs to push ahead with this technology. We may now see more flagships move away from 8-bit displays limited to sRGB, with hardware ready to capture and display more detailed, accurate scenes. That’s ultimately a win for consumers.

It’s unclear what else the OPPO Find X3 will bring in 2021, but expect more details to arrive well ahead of its launch.
