Some Galaxy Note 9 cameras are freezing, but Samsung is working on a fix

July 23, 2025

TheSamsungGalaxy Note 9is the company’s most expensive mainstream flagship phone to date, coming in at $1000. But that price tag doesn’t mean the phone is immune to issues, as evidenced by the Note 9’s freezing woes.

According toSamMobile, users have noted freezing when taking pictures, as well as lag while recording videos. Oddly enough, this seems to only affect users of theSnapdragonvariant (sold in the U.S., Korea, and a few other markets), while the Exynos variant used in the rest of the world doesn’t seem to suffer from these issues.

Forum-goers have suggested that users clear the phone’s system partition cache, but this is a short-term solution. Fortunately, it seems like Samsung is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

“Our specialists have given us the directive that an update is coming out to fix this issue specifically. However, due to us being unable to speculate on the release of future updates, I don’t have an exact date for when to expect this,” a Samsung moderatornotedin the company forum.

Hopefully, this means the fix comes sooner rather than later, as the last thing a smartphone owner needs is for the camera to fail over the holiday season. Especially when the affected phone is the joint winner in ourBest of Android 2018camera category.

Samsung’s latest flagship packs a ton of features into its glass body, ranging fromwireless chargingand aBluetooth-powered S-PentoIP68water/dust resistance and aheadphone jack. Other noteworthy features include 128GB or 512GB of expandable storage, a 12MP+12MP telephoto camera setup, aclass-leadingOLED display, and a 4,000mAh battery.
