‘Stable’ Oxygen OS 12 is a bug-riddled mess, say OnePlus users
August 25, 2025
Remember whenOnePlusrolled out the Oxygen OS 11 update to the OnePlus 8 series? That didn’t go so well. Or how about the same software for the OnePlus 7 series? That came incredibly late and alsodidn’t go so well. Hopefully, things would be better this time around, right?
Apparently not. Earlier this week, OnePlus rolled out a stable version ofOxygen OS 12— based onAndroid 12— to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. Now that users have had time to install and use it, the usual backlash against it started fast and started strong.

Inthis Reddit thread, there are numerous complaints of bugs and missing features. This Twitter threadhas much of the same sentiment. Eventhe official announcement postin the OnePlus forums is filled to the brim with people recommending users not install the Oxygen OS 12 upgrade on their phones.
Most egregiously, a lot of staples of Oxygen OS aren’t present on the Android 12 version. This includes many customization options, such as the ability to change individual icons, customize the status bar, change the battery icon, and more. There is also no way to turn the Google Feed off (the page that appears when you swipe left on the home screen). It looks likethe hybridization of Oxygen OS and OPPO’s Color OSdoesn’t come without sacrifices.
There are also numerous complaints that not much has changed with the system since the previous beta. The official changelog is also getting criticized due to it lacking a lot of changes users can see when using Oxygen OS 12.
If you have a OnePlus 9 or 9 Pro, you might want to pass on the update for now.
